What Does Piedmont and Santorini Have in Common?

Still no euros for gyros. How can 2 girls get some gyros around here? While we’re at it we’d like to put in an order for 1 glorious Santorini sunset. We won’t be greedy–just 1 is all we’re asking.

After sulking over the cloud-obscured sunset last night we ventured out into the windy darkness to Santorini Mou for dinner in a Greek traverna. Even before we ordered, we were greeted with a 4″ photo notebook of guests and Green Day. Then they pointed out about another dozen notebooks of the same width which only meant we were going in a notebook like it or not.

It turns out Californians vacation in Santorini and Santorinians vacation in California. The owner Mibalis and his wife spend their winters in Piedmont. They are friends with Green Day and the owners of Kokkari in San Francisco, Robin and Paul. We were instructed by Mibalis’s wife to name drop when dining next at Kokkari to receive a big discount. I wonder if they know the owner of Petros in Manhattan Beach.

After dinner we took a 2 minute cab ride back to the hotel for 10 euros. I guess they charge you more as the bone chill factor increases. Thumbs down for ripping off tourists.

Pedometer update for yesterday: 5.5 miles = 17,422 steps = 292 calories. That’s just too many miles and steps so today we are going to rent a car. Judging from the driving gymnastics we’ve witnessed we Asian women drivers should fit right in here. 😉

  1. You will find the best gyros when back in Athens… sorry the weather isn’t cooperating.
